What is a Level 2 Home Care Package?

A Level 2 Home Care Package is intended for older adults with low-level care needs. It offers a moderate amount of support, suitable for those who need assistance with daily tasks but can still manage many aspects of their personal care and household activities independently.

How to Access a Level 2 Home Care Package

Accessing a Home Care Package involves several steps, starting with an assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). This assessment will determine the level of care required and the appropriate Home Care Package level. Once approved, individuals are placed on a national waiting list. How Many Hours is a Level 2 Home Care Package?

The exact number of hours of care you can receive with a Level 2 Home Care Package depends on the cost of the services you need and your provider’s rates. Generally, a Level 2 package might provide approximately 3 to 4 hours of care per week. However, this can vary based on individual circumstances and service costs.

What Can I Spend My Level 2 Home Care Package On?

You can spend your Level 2 Home Care Package on a range of services designed to help you stay independent and safe at home. This includes personal care, domestic assistance, health support, social support, transport, and home maintenance. The specific services should be agreed upon with your provider and tailored to your individual needs.

What Fees are Associated with a Level 2 Home Care Package?

There are three main types of fees associated with a Level 2 Home Care Package:

  1. Basic Daily Fee: Up to $12.08 per day.

  2. Income-Tested Care Fee: Depending on your income, you might need to contribute an additional amount, which is assessed by Services Australia.

  3. Additional Fees: Any extra services or items not covered by your package might incur additional costs.

Am I Eligible for a Level 2 Home Care Package?

To be eligible for a Level 2 Home Care Package, you must:


  • Be an older person who needs coordinated services to help stay at home, typically aged 65 or over (or 50 and over for First Nations people).

  • Undergo an assessment by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), which will determine your care needs and the appropriate level of Home Care Package.
