What is Overnight Care?

Overnight care refers to support services provided to an individual during the night, typically between evening and early morning hours. It’s commonly part of aged care or disability support plans for people who need assistance or supervision while they sleep. Discover the different levels of support available in our guide on Home Care Packages Level 1-4.

With overnight care at home, you can receive flexible support ranging from a few hours to 24/7 care, ensuring comfort and independence. To learn more about how these packages can fit your needs, visit our overview of Home Care Packages.

Types of Overnight Care Services

Active Overnight Care: Active overnight care means that a caregiver stays awake throughout the night to attend to various duties and provide continuous support. This service is ideal for elderly clients with specific needs that require constant attention, such as those with complex medical conditions or those receiving palliative care. It is also beneficial for individuals with mental health needs who might be at risk of self-harm during the night. Our caregivers are there to ensure medication schedules are followed and to provide immediate assistance as needed.

In-active overnight care: In-active overnight care involves a caregiver staying with your loved one throughout the night, but sleeping from 10 pm to 6 am. They are available to assist once during the night, with additional assistance incurring an extra hourly charge. This service is suitable for clients who may need help going to the bathroom, taking medication, or simply require reassurance and guidance back to bed if they wake up confused.

Benefits of Overnight Care

We offer a range of services as part of our active and in-active overnight care packages. Here are some key benefits:

One of the most common risks for elderly individuals is falling during the night. Our caregivers are trained to help clients get in and out of bed safely and guide them to the bathroom, significantly reducing the risk of falls. This service not only prevents injuries but also boosts the confidence of our clients and provides peace of mind for their families.

Meal Preparation

Our overnight caregivers can prepare an evening meal for the client and their regular carer. This ensures that both receive a nutritious meal and allows the primary carer to spend quality time with their loved one without the stress of meal preparation. It's a wonderful way to enhance the well-being of both the client and their carer.

Providing Reassurance

Elderly individuals, especially those with Alzheimer’s or dementia, often wake up confused during the night. Our caregivers offer comfort and reassurance, helping clients relax and return to sleep using methods like calming meditation or a warm drink. This service reduces nighttime anxiety and ensures a restful night for our clients.

Cover for Primary Carers

Caring for a loved one can be exhausting, and primary carers need a break to avoid burnout. Our overnight respite care allows primary carers to take a well-deserved rest, knowing their relative is in good hands. Whether it’s for one night or an extended period, our professional caregivers provide top-quality care and support.
